I explore the tension between the grotesque and the innocuous, using charm and “cute” imagery as tools of psychological manipulation to engage viewers and provoke complex emotional reactions. Influenced by Simon May’s The Power of Cute, my work investigates the act of weaponizing cuteness: how something outwardly harmless can distort perception, blur emotional boundaries, and conceal darker undertones. I explore the moment when sweetness begins to rot, when something endearing turns quietly dangerous.
Rooted in digital 3D media, my practice has expanded into physical forms to enhance the tactile and emotional presence of my creations. This blending of digital and tangible processes allows me to build immersive worlds and develop characters that feel simultaneously endearing and menacing, reflecting the duality at the core of my work. Inspired by Mark Ryden’s approach to worldbuilding and character design, I construct visual narratives that are lush, uncanny, and psychologically charged.
I aim to create experiences where charm and discomfort intertwine, leaving viewers both captivated and unsettled.
